Richard Cohan Carter Sr., 78, of the 8000 block of Merritt St., died Nov. 1, 1995.
Mr. Carter, the widower of Grace Virginia Carter, was a retired superintendent for the Hermitage Museum Foundation.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Vogal of Norfolk, Denise Balance of Virginia Beach; one son, William Henry Carter of Virginia Beach; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Carter Jr.; and a daughter, Joyce Overby Gilliam.
The funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, in charge.
