BENJAMIN F. DIXON

Sheriff Benjamin F. Dixon, retired, 79, of 6629 Old Myrtle Road, died Nov. 2, 1995, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Dixon was a native of New Bern, N.C., and was the son of the late Henry Lee and Beulah Epperson Dixon. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Mr. Dixon was retired as sheriff of Isle of Wight County, having served from 1961 to 1987. He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge (NU)151 AF & AM, Sudan Temple of New Bern; and the Carrsville Ruritan Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ida V. Johnson Dixon; two sons, Drew F. Dixon and his wife, Carol of Carrsville, Kent S. Dixon of Roy, Wash.; four sisters, Edna Peoples of Philadelphia, Grace Sellers, and Anne Ditzell, both of New Bern, and Pearl Klauman of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Henry L. Dixon and Earl W. Dixon, both of New Bern; and four grandchildren, Jennifer L. Dixon, Lee F. Dixon, Kevin S. Dixon and Dina Dixon.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey. The burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may join the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Drew F. Dixon, 6701 Old Myrtle Road, and suggest that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851. Wright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
