Bluefish action was fairly good on piers along the northern beach area Friday.
A good run of tailor bluefish, with a few speckled trout mixed in, was reported during the morning on Kitty Hawk Pier. Action slowed during the afternoon, however.
Anglers on Avalon Pier had a slow day, catching only a handful of bluefish and speckled trout.
Scattered tailor blues were taken during the afternoon from the end of Nags Head Pier on red and white jiggers. Anglers using bloodworms and shrimp also landed sea mullet from the end of that pier.
A few small speckled trout and some bluefish were taken on Jennette's Pier by anglers using bucktails.
Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught fair numbers of tailor blues, a few small trout, small black drum and sea mullet during the morning. Quite a few bluefish were landed from the end of the pier later in the day.
On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported unusually slow fishing throughout the day Friday.
A 45-pound drum was taken from Avon Pier Thursday night. Sea mullet and a few keeper speckled trout were landed from the pier Friday.
Frisco Pier anglers caught some small bluefish, sea mullet and a few puppy drum.
Surf fishing from Corolla to Oregon Inlet was slow Friday. Dirty water along the beach kept speckled trout action to a minimum. But some sea mullet and small blues were landed.
Black drum, sea mullet, nice-sized bluefish, and an occasional puppy drum were beached around Oregon Inlet.
Puppy drum, small bluefish and black drum were taken along the beach from the south side of Oregon Inlet to Buxton.
Quite a few big drum were landed Thursday night at Cape Point, along with some sizeable sharks. Some puppy drum and small bottom fish were taken Friday.
Sea mullet, small bluefish and a few puppy drum were landed by surfcasters from Frisco to False Point.
Oregon Inlet and Pirates Cove charters landed fair numbers of yellowfin tuna and king mackerel Friday.
The Hatteras fleet reported excellent king mackerel fishing on a color change off Avon. Most of the kings weighed between 15 and 50 pounds, and were taken on live bait.
The water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 70 degrees Friday. by CNB
