HAMPTON WINS FOR SOLE PENINSULA LEAD

Sophomore quarterback Ronald Curry threw for 213 yards and ran for 142 more to lead Hampton to a 43-23 win over Phoebus in a Peninsula District showdown at Darling Stadium.

The Crabbers (8-1 overall and district) all but locked up the Peninsula District title in earning the school's 600th win. Next week they face Gloucester, which had won just one game before Friday.

The Phantoms (8-2) now have to wait for the games of Division 5 teams Kecoughtan and Western Branch next week to determine their playoff chances.

Curry hit Ahmad Hawkins on a 47-yard touchdown pass and found Darryl Smith for a 44-yard scoring strike as Hampton built a 21-10 halftime lead. Tight end Drew Walker threw to Junious Slaughter off a lateral for a 39-yard score and Josh Jones nailed a 39-yard field goal for Phoebus.

The second half belonged to Curry. He scored on runs of 1, 11 and 67 yards to put the Crabbers up 43-17 in the fourth quarter.

Phoebus' Jay Brown scored on a quarterback sneak to cap a 6-play, 58-yard drive with six minutes left to play. The Phantoms' Antwan Womack gained 162 yards on 21 carries. by CNB
