No. 6 Indian River virtually locked up a postseason playoff berth with a 21-9 win over No. 7 Churchland in a Southeastern District game Friday night.
The Braves' defense set up all three touchdowns.
Michael Tolliver recovered a Churchland fumble at the Truckers' 13 in the opening minutes and Corey Holley raced up the middle for a score on the next play.
The lead was built to 13-0 in the third quarter when linebacker Edward Seward blocked a Churchland punt at the Truckers' 14 and Antwan Stukes pounced on the ball in the end zone.
After Churchland went 66 yards in eight plays to cut the deficit to 13-7, the Braves (4-2, 7-2) put away the victory with Holley's second touchdown run, a 5-yarder on the identical play in which he first scored. Again the score resulted from the Indian River defense, which stopped Churchland (5-4, 3-3) on a 4th-and-1 gamble at the Churchland 37.
The aggressive Braves were flagged for 11 penalties (120 yards) and had three touchdowns nullified by the infractions, including a 60-yard run by Michael Joyner. Quarterback James Boyd lost a 38-yard scoring pass and a 32-yard TD run.
``Penalties have hurt us all year,'' said Indian River coach Bob Parker. ``But I can never remember losing three touchdowns in one game.''
Indian River recovered three Churchland fumbles and intercepted two passes, in addition to blocking the punt.
A 52-yard run by Steve Johnson paved the way for the Churchland touchdown, a one-yard plunge by Termaine Sessoms on a fourth-down play after three earlier shots from four yards out.

Powell's 56-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Perry gave the Hornets a 20-0 lead at the half. He also tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Mack in the third quarter.

Kempsville 34 Bayside 21
VIRGINIA BEACH - Zeb Clark ran for two touchdowns and Fred Sanders threw for another as the No. 9 Chiefs came from behind in the fourth quarter.
Bayside quarterback Jimmy Walker was 11 for 15 for 171 yards and three touchdowns over a 17-minute span in the first half to give the Marlins (3-6, 2-6) a 21-14 lead.
But Kempsville stiffened in the second half, limiting Walker to 5 of 10 for 48 yards after the break.
Sanders then connected with Trey Simkins on a 41-yard scoring toss with 11:48 to go. Clark carried it in from the 2 with 8:44 left to give Kempsville (7-2, 6-2) a 26-20 lead.

Booker T. Washington 21 Wilson 6
NORFOLK - The Bookers took their frustrations out on the winless Presidents' offense as they limited Wilson to 60 yards total offense and no first downs in the second half.
Shawn Minter ran for 102 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for the Bookers (3-6), who learned earlier this week they'd have to forfeit five victories. Chester Jones added a two-yard scoring run.
Rahn Sykes scored on a 90-yard fumble recovery for Wilson (0-8).
