Clarence Skinner's 4-yard touchdown run on third down in the second overtime possession lifted Nansemond River past Bruton, 20-14, in a Bay Rivers District game Friday.
Tied at 7 through regulation, both teams scored touchdowns on their first overtime possession - Corey Randolph on an 11-yard reception for Bruton and Raymond Wiggins on a 10-yard run for the Warriors. But the Panthers roughed Nansemond kicker Drey Asbell on the point after. When Warriors coach Jerry Varacallo decided for the extra point instead of a two-point try, Bruton had to begin its second extra possession from the Warrior 25.
The Panthers threw four incomplete passes, giving Nansemond River a opening that Skinner found with his winning run.
``We were flat tonight,'' said Varacallo. ``Maybe we were looking ahead for Lakeland, especially after they thumped Bruton.''
Campbell hooked up with Jermaine Burke ona 21-yard touchdown pass to give Bruton a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Skinner returned the ensuing kickoff 64 yards to the Panther 18 and Wiggins scored on the next play to tie.
