Saul Glickman, 83, died Nov. 3, 1995.
Mr. Glickman was born in Portsmouth. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1927 and attended MCV's school of Pharmacy. Saul left school to play professional baseball. As a boy, Saul was the marbles champion of Portsmouth. He quit baseball to join the Army during World War II. He was in the 83rd infantry division, the first Allied unit to cross the Elbe. After the war, he worked until his retirement in the accounting offices of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Saul is remembered for many years of devoted service to Little League baseball and woman's softball. Saul never failed to help anyone that needed his help. He was a member of Beth Chaverim Temple in Virginia Beach and previously of Gomley Chesed in Portsmouth. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah; sister, Sophie Aftel; and his children, Charles Glickman and Blanche Spilka; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beth Chaverim building fund, P.O. Box 5130, Virginia Beach 23455. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, at 11 a.m. in Workmen's Circle Cemetery, Franklin St., Chesapeake, by Rabbi Zoberman. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
