Russell Franklin Handy Sr., Ed.D., 87, of the 5300 block of Bingham Drive, died Nov. 4, 1995.
He was a retired teacher and minister and a native of Whitley County, Ind. He was a member of West Side Christian Church. He had college degrees from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich., and the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. He was a public school teacher and college professor. He was an ordained minister in the Disciples of Christ Church and was active in rural church ministry, youth camps and new church establishment. He was an adjunct professor of psychology at Tidewater Community College. He also taught the men's bible class at West Side Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Irene L. Handy; daughter, Catherine L. Elkess of Catonsville, Md.; two sons, R. Franklin Handy Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., and David G. Handy of Spartanburg, S.C.; sister, Lucy Ellen Pruett of Independence, Mo.; brother, Burton K. Handy Jr. of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Ken Bryant in West Side Christian Church. Burial is in Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Ind. Memorial donations may be made to the the church. Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, is in charge.
