I would like to address the two columns (Oct. 23) that compared the Million Man March with the Promise Keepers. Both Sandy Grady and Ellen Goodman told half-truths. There are two things I would like to set straight.
First, Promise Keepers does not use Scripture to ``claim that husbands should dominate their wives,'' or as Ms. Goodman put it, ``to become better masters.'' To the contrary, our wives are to be treated with the utmost respect. In the partnership of marriage, we are to work together toward common goals as equals. However, just as a ship should not have two captains or a country two presidents, a home should not have two husbands or two wives. Someone will ultimately have to stand accountable for the actions of the family unit. This role is the role of the husband and father.
Second, Mr. Grady says he does not equate Louis Farrakhan with Bill McCartney; however, he spent a lot of time doing so. Farrakhan stands for separatism, anger and resentment toward whites, Jews and anyone who chooses not to support him. He is a propagator of the same racism he denounces. Bill McCartney issues a call to unity that transcends race or religion.
There is a world of difference in the message and the messenger. In the future, I would suggest to Mr. Grady and Ms. Goodman to look at the complete facts before drawing a conclusion.
