Circuit City Stores Inc., the Richmond-based electronics retailer, on Monday reported that October's same-store sales fell 1 percent - the company's worst monthly showing so far this year. Executives blamed an intense promotional climate and the company's calendar year, which gave Circuit City one less Saturday in October. Last October, Circuit City had an 18 percent increase in same-store sales. Same-store sales - revenues at stores open at least a year - are considered a better barometer of a company's performance because they eliminate the impact of new store openings. Circuit City's total October sales rose 26 percent to $528 million from $417.9 million. (Staff) by CNB
