The Rochelle-Prince House will be decorated for Christmas - the old-fashioned way.
The theme, ``Candlelight Christmas in Old Jerusalem,'' refers to Courtland's pre-Civil War name. Oil lamps and candles will provide illumination, said Carolyn Beale, exhibits chairman of the Southampton County Historical Society.
The building will be open to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays, ``to take advantage of the shadowy afternoon light,'' she said.
Many of the decorations will not be from the 1800s, since there aren't many of them around, Beale said. ``We hope people will lend us antique exhibit items such as nativity scenes and ornaments.''
Wassail and cookies will be served and, each Sunday during November, there will be entertainment - a children's chorus, a dulcimer performance, and a handbells and chimes group.
Beale said November was chosen for the exhibit, rather than December, ``to get people in the Christmas mood and because so many people are so busy in December getting ready for the holidays.'' MEMO: AT A GLANCE
