VIOLET M. MELTON

Violet Evelyn Morris Melton, age 69, of 5606 Locust Drive, Dublin, Va., died Nov. 6, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was formerly a resident of Portsmouth.

Mrs. Melton was past auxiliary president of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 993, Portsmouth, and past second district president of the Lady Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was past state president, Auxiliary United Spanish Wars Veterans. She was also a member of the Tidewater Depression Club and a member of the Tidewater Homemaker Club. She was a longtime bowler for the Duck Pin League in Portsmouth. She was a member of the Fancy Gap United Methodist Church and a former school teacher.

She was survived by her husband, Swanson Melton; two brothers, Rudolph Morris of Dublin and Verlin Morris of Yadkinville, N.C.; two nephews, David Stump of Chesapeake and Rev. Wm. Michael Stump of Houstonville, Ky.; and many grandnieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Moody Funeral Home, Mt. Airy, N.C., from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at Fancy Gap Methodist Church, Fancy Gap, Va. at 2 p.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Layne Pennington, the Rev. Victor Scott and the Rev. Michael Stump. Graveside memorial service will be held by the lady auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Interment at the Morris Cemetery, Fancy Gap.
