MELVIN R. WHITEHURST

Melvin R. Whitehurst, of the first block of Randall Ave., Long Island, died Nov. 3, 1995.

Mr. Whitehurst, a mail clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, was a native of Norfolk. He was a U.S. Marine with the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart V.N. Vet, V.N. Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, and Rifle Marksmanship Badge.

Survivors include one daughter, Danisha Monei Whitehurst of Long Island, N.Y.; his mother, Ursula Savage of Long Island; his stepfather, Henry C. Savage of Long Island; five sisters, Carolyn Sinkler, Brenda, Denise, Cynthia Whitehurst, all of Long Island, Deborah Whitehurst of Chesapeake; five brothers, George and Calvin Whitehurst of Long Island, Kevin Whitehurst of Connecticut, Glenn Whitehurst of Chesapeake, and Marty Gaye of Silver Spring, Md.; paternal father, Melvin R. Whitehurst Sr. of Chesapeake; and a host of relatives and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial is in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will be at 422 Craig St., Norfolk. Pretlow and Sons' Funeral Home, Chesapeake, in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
