After Tuesday's election, Northampton County has a radically different Board of Supervisors. Two women - the first ever to sit on Northampton's board - were elected.
And now, three of Northampton's six supervisors are African American. The county is 50 percent black, but this is the first time African Americans here have had equal representation on the board.
Only two incumbents remained on Northampton's six-person board, with two suffering upsets and two choosing not to run.
In Accomack, where each of the former board members has been indicted on charges of illegal spending, three of the county's nine supervisors were replaced.
Both counties re-elected those constitutional officers who chose to run, but some won by narrow margins. The following results are from the contested races.
