A PERFECT DAY FOR CATCHING ALL KINDS OF FISH

Pier fishing was excellent along the northern beaches Wednesday.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught lots of 2- to 3-pound speckled trout, bluefish and scattered puppy drum throughout the day. A number of striped bass were released.

Avalon Pier reported good numbers of bluefish, speckled trout and puppy drum taken during the morning. Afternoon fishing was slower, with some small trout and puppy drum landed.

Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught some gray trout, speckled trout and bluefish early in the day. Action during the afternoon was slow.

Plenty of speckled trout were taken early in the morning from Jennette's Pier. Quite a few striped bass were seen and an 8-pound striper was released. A few trout and mullet were landed during the afternoon.

Outer Banks Pier fishermen had a good morning catch, reeling in 2- to 3-pound speckled trout on lures. Fishing was slow during the afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported plenty of small puppy drum, scattered sea mullet and a few trout taken on Wednesday.

Eight big drum weighing between 30 pounds and 50 pounds were released early Wednesday morning from Avon Pier. Anglers also caught sea mullet and speckled trout.

Small sea mullet, croaker and a few puppy drum were taken on Frisco Pier.

A few speckled trout, sea mullet and an occasional puppy drum were landed along the beach from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

Speckled trout weighing as much as 4 pounds were taken by anglers wading on Oregon Inlet's south side.

Plenty of small sea mullet, bluefish, a few nice speckled trout and puppy drum were beached by surf fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Some puppy drum and bluefish were taken from Cape Point Tuesday night. Trout were landed Wednesday in the surf near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Sea mullet were plentiful along the beach south of the lighthouse.

Some black drum and mullet were landed along the beach from Frisco to False Point.

No boats went offshore through Oregon Inlet because of gusty winds Wednesday. A few craft did fish off Hatteras, catching fair numbers of king mackerel.

Decreasing winds and an improvement in inshore water clarity should produce increased speckled trout action in the surf along the Outer Banks today.

The water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 64 degrees Wednesday. by CNB
