While returning to Pennsylvania after attending the first Korean War Veterans Reunion in Virginia Beach, Oct. 18-21, I was delighted to read ```Forgotten' warriors get their day in the sun'' (MetroNews, Oct. 22).
As a Korean vet who served with the 1st Marine Division, Headquarters Battalion, Headquarters Company, from 1953-54 as a chaplain's assistant, this old sergeant was very impressed with the fine welcome we all received.
Soon after my return to the States in March 1954, Ruth Ann and I were married and lived the last six months of my enlistment in Norfolk before returning to college and seminary. We just finished 40 years pastoral ministry in The Wesleyan Church.
After searching for years forthe chaplain with whom I served in Korea as assistant, I found Cmdr. L. W. Meachum (ret.) living in Virginia Beach! I was very proud of him and his participation in the memorial service, even though he is 90 years old! It was our first meeting in 42 years.
Needless to say, those three days in your area were delightful.
