James L. Clark, 74, of 2255 Anderson Highway, Elberton, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 1995 at his home.
Born in Elbert County, Ga., he was the husband of Helen Grennan Clark, and a son of the late Edwin Cleveland Clark and Callie Craft Clark. Mr. Clark was of the Baptist faith and he was a U.S. Navy veteran, with 24 1/2 years of service, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Civil Service Administration as a firefighter at the NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach. He was a member of Naomi Masonic Lodge (NU)87 A.F. & A.M., in Norfolk and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Khedive Shrine Temple in Norfolk. He was an honorary member of the Khedive Provost Guard and a life member of Virginia Beach Shrine Club and a member of the Chesapeake, Va., Shrine Club. Mr. Clark was a member of, and a past president of, the Fleet Reserve Association Branch (NU)166 in Virginia Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Grennan Clark, of the home; daughter, Donna Walencikowski of Miami; three sons, James R. Clark, Robert S. Clark, and John M. Clark, all of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Blandena Attaway of Stone Mountain, Ga., Martha Fowler and Estelle Holloman, both of Elberton; brother, Edwin C. Clark of Lithonia, Ga.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Helen Kriser, and by one brother, Wilson Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Dr. Anne Fletcher and Dr. Virgle Suttles officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Elberton, with Masonic rites. The family will be at the home, 2255 Anderson Highway, and will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Keith Holloman, Fred Jackson, Phillip Campos, Louis Campos, Joel Floyd and Roger Dove. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Elberton Philomathea Masonic Lodge (NU)25. Flowers are optional, and memorials may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital of your choice.
