Norman Robert ``Smitty'' Smith, 73, of Kill Devil Hills, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital. Mr. Smith was a native of Toledo, Ohio, and a resident of Kill Devil Hills for 45 years.
He was the retired owner and operator of N.R. ``Smitty'' Smith Electric Company and was a former fire chief of Kill Devil Hills. He was a member of Liberty Christian Fellowship, where he was a former deacon, and was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Orleo and Florence Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Virginia ``Dood'' York Smith of the home; three daughters, Diane Atkinson of Henderson, N.C., Vickie Martone of Kitty Hawk, and Ginger Midgett of Manteo, N.C.; three brothers, three sisters and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo on Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995, at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Richard Lamphear, Rev. Clay Davis and Rev. Jerry Hatchell. Burial will follow in the Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Flowers are being accepted as well as memorial contributions to Liberty Christian Fellowship, 244 Williams Drive, Kill Devil Hills, N.C. 27948. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo is in charge of arrangements.
