MAXIE L. SMITH SR.

Maxie Lester ``Mac'' Smith Sr., 57, of the 800 block of Canal Drive, died Nov. 9, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.

He was a native of Huntsville, Ala., and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a crane operator. He was a member of the Norfolk Church of Christ, Norview Masonic Lodge (NU)113, Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Shrine Temple, and he was active in Little League Baseball in Deep Creek.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Hawkins Smith of Chesapeake; his wife, Sheila F. Smith; daughter, Kimberly Smith of Chesapeake; three sons, Maxie L. Smith Jr. of Ozark, Mo., Louis W. Smith of Norfolk, Warren R. Smith of Chesapeake; sister, Shirley S. Powers of Chesapeake; two brothers, Gerald L. Smith and Marvin Ray Smith, both of Chesapeake; four grandchildren; and several uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday with Masonic rites in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Minister Mark Claypool. Burial is in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.
