Newport News Shipbuilding delivered the new Navy aircraft carrier John C. Stennis on Thursday, seven months ahead of schedule thanks to big jumps in its productivity. Despite nearly 1,200 upgrades and changes to ship's design, systems and living spaces from the last carrier, the Stennis was built using about 1 million fewer man-hours. The Stennis' keel was laid in March 1991. It was christened Nov. 11, 1993. It will be commissioned Dec. 9 and join the Atlantic Fleet. (Staff) by CNB
