THURSDAY WAS SLOW; WEEKEND SHOULD BE BETTER

Pier fishing along the northern Outer Banks beaches was generally slow Thursday at most locations.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier landed only a few sea mullet.

On Avalon Pier, fishing was slow during the morning. Late in the afternoon, some puppy drum were landed, but most were too small to keep.

Nags Head Pier reported a few blues, sea mullet and small trout landed throughout the day.

Fishing was very slow on Jennette's Pier, with one puppy drum caught all day.

Outer Banks Pier reported a fairly good day. Good numbers of sea mullet and some speckled trout were taken late in the afternoon. Additionally, a few small puppy drum, black drum, croakers and gray trout were landed.

South of Oregon Inlet, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught a few gray trout, speckled trout, blues and puppy drum.

On Avon Pier, sea mullet fishing was excellent, with fish up to 1 1/2 pounds taken. Small flounder, gray trout and small black drum also were taken.

Frisco Pier reported slow fishing, with a few small flounder landed and released.

Dirty water and a fairly good swells kept surf fishing to a minimum from Corolla to Oregon Inlet on Thursday.

Speckled trout fishing was good around the south side of Oregon Inlet. Anglers fishing off the catwalk on the south end of the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge did well.

Along the beach between Ramp 34 and Avon Pier, lots of big drum were landed Wednesday night.

Puppy drum, sea mullet and speckled trout were landed Thursday in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton. Additionally, two big drum were beached south of Ramp 27.

At Cape Point, 8- to 16-pound puppy drum were landed Wednesday night. Puppy drum and flounder were taken sporadically Thursday.

Puppy drum action was good from Ramp 55 to False Point on Wednesday night. On Thursday, speckled trout, croakers, sea mullet, puppy drum and flounder were landed by surf fishermen from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

No offshore charters were run out of Oregon Inlet or Hatteras on Thursday because of the weather.

Drum fishing should be good in the Hatteras area over the weekend.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 60 degrees Thursday. by CNB
