A 40-year-old woman was found dead in her home Thursday after being raped, police said, and a 31-year-old man has been charged in the attack.
Police were called at about 3:15 p.m. to the 3800 block of Roanoke Ave., where they found the body of Valarie C. Alston in her apartment. Investigators said she had been raped.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Norfolk for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
About 8:20 p.m. Thursday, police arrested Benjamin Ray Stilley of the 900 block of 37th St. and charged him with murder and rape.
