HELEN M. SIMMONS

Mrs. Helen M. Simmons, 90, died on Nov. 8, 1995, in Sentara Nursing Center in Norfolk.

Born Nov. 3, 1905 in York, Neb., she lived her early life in Lincoln, Neb.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth A. Simmons, a petroleum geologist, whom she married in 1927. She is survived by a son, Robert A. Simmons of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Betty R. Basinger of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Barbara J. Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren in Texas, Oklahoma, Washington and Japan, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Simmons spent most of her life in Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas before moving in 1987 to Virginia Beach where she resided at First Colonial Inn. She had been active for many years in the American Red Cross Blood Bank Program in Illinois. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Corsicana, Texas, and more recently of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.

She left the gift of her body to anatomical research and the gift of fond memories to all who knew and loved her. She will be sincerely missed by family and friends who knew her to be a kind lady of superior intellect who could be a tough fighter and a valued friend.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
