Walter Mckinley Waddell, 86, of Wynn St., died Nov. 7, 1995 in Cooper Hospital, Camden, N.J.
He was a native of North Carolina and was the widower of Susan Bell Waddell. He was a retired aircraft mechanic for Norfolk Naval Air Station with 35 years of service. He had been retired for 20 years. Mr. Waddell was a member of First Baptist Church, Berkley, where he was a deacon. He was a surrogate father to many young people in Norfolk and Portsmouth.
He is survived by two daughters, Edna Waddell of Marlton, N.J., and Evelyn Waddell of Arnold, Md.; three sons, James Waddell of Albuquerque, N.M., Raymond Waddell of Dayton, Ohio, and Charles Waddell of Atlanta; two sisters, Edith Faison and Louise Nixon, both of Wilmington, N.C.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in First Baptist Church, Berkley, by Dr. Theodore Little Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Pretlow's Funeral Home and Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. Monday for the procession to the church.
