IT WAS A GREAT DAY TO GET OUT INTO BLUE WATER

Blue water fishing was excellent southeast of Oregon Inlet Friday. Limits of yellowfin tuna and dolphin were caught by charters fishing the area from ``the point,'' southeast of Oregon Inlet, to the 40640 Loran line. Some of the tuna were in the 50- to 60-pound class. Some nice-sized wahoo also were taken. A blue marlin was released by the Fight `N Lady and a sailfish by the Right Hook. The Capt. B.C. landed a 95-pound big-eye tuna.

Charters off Hatteras did well around the 40340 Loran line in 70 feet of water, catching king mackerel, yellowfin and blackfin tuna. A number of big bluefin tuna were reported hooked and lost by boats in the area.

Pier fishing along the Outer Banks was fair Friday.

A few speckled trout were landed from Kitty Hawk Pier during the morning.

A few speckled trout and small bluefish were landed on Avalon Pier. Several small puppy drum were released.

Nags Head Pier reported a handful of black drum, croaker, sea mullet, small speckled trout and bluefish during the day.

Anglers on Jeannette's Pier caught a few sea mullet during the morning and some speckled trout on bucktails shortly after noon.

A few mullet, black drum, small bluefish and several trout were landed by fishermen on Outer Banks pier.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported scattered speckled trout and bluefish taken.

A few speckled trout and sea mullet were landed on Avon Pier.

Some 15- to 16-inch gray trout were taken during the afternoon from Frisco Pier.

A few speckled trout and puppy drum were beached in the surf north of Kitty Hawk Pier early Friday morning. A few nice puppy drum, speckled trout and medium-striped bass were landed from deeper sloughs along the beach from Kitty Hawk to Oregon Inlet.

Speckled trout fishing was good on the south side of Oregon Inlet during the morning. Quite a few puppy drum were landed from the north side of the Inlet.

Some speckled trout were landed in the surf along the Pea Island beach. Bluefish, puppy drum and sea mullet were caught by surf fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Some puppy drum were taken at Cape Point, and plenty of sea mullet were landed along the north beach Thursday night. Speckled trout were landed along the beach near the lighthouse Friday, and small blues were plentiful at Cape Point.

Scattered sea mullet, puppy drum, flounder, speckled trout and small bluefish were taken in the surf from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 60 degrees Friday. by CNB
