Portsmouth's United Way campaign once again is leading the region, standing at 85 percent of its goal with $549,337 reported on Thursday.
Other cities are standing between 75 percent and 84 percent.
The Major Firms Division, headed by Jeri Smith, reported in Thursday at 98 percent of goal with pledges of $253,553 and was followed by Portsmouth Public Schools, headed by Jimmie Williford, standing at 94 percent of goal with $57,330.
Other groups reported as follows: residential, headed by Roy Cherry, 90 percent of goal with $38,080; Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority, headed by Wendy Hunter, 88 percent of goal with $8,722; Manufacturing, Wholesale and Auto, headed by Gene Hassell, 83 percent of goal with $29,973; Professionals, headed by John Basilone, 78 percent of goal with $72,805; Retail Sales and Insurance, headed by Dan Swanson, 63 percent of goal with $23,552; City of Portsmouth, headed by Skip Walker, 61 percent of goal with $58,569; Builders, Developers and Real Estate, headed by Delaine Wood, 56 percent of goal at $5,653.
Portsmouth United Way campaign chairman is Marilee Hawkins, director of Environmental Services for the city. Vice chairmen are Mary Curran of Central Fidelity and Heywood Stowe of the Portsmouth Public Schools. by CNB
