Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Talman C. ``Tim'' Budd II, associate dean of economic development at College of Lake County, died at home Nov. 10, 1995, of acute leukemia. He was 66 years old.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Col. Budd was a resident of Gurnee since 1989. Col. Budd was active in civic affairs all over the United States. His civic contributions included Board of Directors of Transportation Management Assoc. of Lake County, vice president of the Lake County Chapter of the Navy League, president of the Chicago Chapter of the Retired Officers Association, Rotary Club International of Gurnee, Harrisburg, Pa., Virginia Beach, board member Workforce Training Assoc. of Illinois. Other community activities included Boy Scouts of America, PTA president, community association president, and active involvement with Little League Baseball.
Col. Budd served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 until his retirement in 1977. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His decorations include the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit with Combat V, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Honor Medal 1st Class. Col. Budd's distinguished military career included many assignments, most notably, director of training, Landing Force Training Command Atlantic Little Creek, Va., commanding officer 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C., staff secretary Fleet Marine Force Pacific Camp Smith Hawaii. He was a skilled leader of men, respected and admired by all who knew him and served with him. Col. Budd will be remembered for his unselfish devotion and dedication to family, community and country.
Col. Budd received his B.S. degree from Middlebury College in 1952. He was a graduate of the Fort Leavenworth Army Command and General Staff College in 1967. He received his masters degree from Pepperdine University in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Rae Budd; two stepdaughters, Sara Drummond of Gurnee and Jennifer Drummond Crema of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Jeanne L. Sligh of Atascadero, Calif., Nancy B. Caldwell of Attleboro, Mass., and Melissa J. Bosso of Bolivar, Mo.; two sons, John L. Budd of San Marcos, Calif., and Andrew G. Budd of Fairfax, Va.; six grandchildren, Richard Lee, Jason Caldwell, Joshua Caldwell, Sarah Bosso, Lauren Bosso, Dennis Sligh Jr.
A visitation will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. in Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, and again at 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 1995. Internment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Flowers are appreciated.
