JAMES R. PURVIS SR.

James Richard Purvis Sr., 79, of the 2400 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd., died Nov. 10, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

He was retired from the security department of Armor Oil Refinery with 35 years of service. He was a native of Williamston, N.C., and the son of Noah and Rosa Purvis. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce A. Purvis of Norfolk; a son, James R. Purvis Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Beulah Purvis of New York; a brother, Robert Purvis of North Carolina; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Mattie E. Bannister; and his former wife and lifetime friend, Thelma R. Purvis.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The family will be at 1031 Wilmington St. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
