Vernon Jackson ``Jack'' Hicks Jr., 68, a retired electrician, of 1307 Ormer Road, died Nov. 10, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Hicks, a native of Goochland County, was the son of the late Vernon Jackson and Flora Lewis Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a member of Oaklette United Methodist Church and a World War II Army veteran. He served as a paratrooper with the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division in occupied Japan. As a dedicated electrician and union member for 34 years of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local (NU)80, he served as its president from 1968 to 1990. Mr. Hicks also served on the joint apprenticeship committee and as a trustee of the Health and Pension Fund of the Tidewater Electrical Industry.
Survivors include his wife, Faye R. Hicks; three daughters, Faye Marie Hayes, Margaret E. Hicks, Mary K. Pitt, all of Virginia Beach; two sons, Vernon J. Hicks III of Virginia Beach, Randolph T. Hicks of Suffolk; a brother, Robert L. Hicks of Maryland; three sisters, Helen Needham and Viola E. Womack, both of Richmond, Olive Hollins of Sandy Hook; and eight granddaughters.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oaklette United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sebert W. Rorrer and Dr. Alan Felumlee. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends in the Oaklette United Methodist Church from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Oaklette United Methodist Church, 520 Oaklette Drive, Chesapeake, or to Hope Haven Children's Home, 3000 North Landing Road, Virginia Beach. R.W.
