FIGHT MARS ATL. SHORES' 42-0 VICTORY

An outstanding first half of football by Atlantic Shores was marred Saturday by a third-quarter fight, and six players were ejected in the Seahawks' 42-0 win over Broadwater Academy in the quarterfinal round of the VISFA state football playoffs.

The fight broke out after Chuck Wilson scored Atlantic Shores' sixth and final touchdown with 5:00 left in the third. Seahawks receiver Josh Milam retaliated for a rough facemask penalty during the play, causing several players from both sides to run onto the field.

Milam, co-captain Steve Hopkins and B.J. Skipper were ejected for Atlantic Shores. Broadwater's Seth Matthews, Lance Nickel and Tony Franklin also were ejected.

Each team was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

``We don't play that way. We don't believe in that,'' said Atlantic Shores coach Adam Cheyunski. ``The coaches look at is as wrong, and the guys are really apologetic.''

According to running back D.J. Jordan, the fight stemmed from a game-long confrontation with one of Broadwater's players.

``Me and Josh Milan had been complaining to the referees about number 19 giving cheap shots. He twisted my ankle several times after he tackled me,'' Jordan said. Wilson's touchdown run came on a ``bump and run play, and the guy just twisted Josh's facemask.''

There was no number 19 listed on the Vikings' roster.

The Seahawks (9-2) held Broadwater to 22 yards in the first half and scored on their first two possessions, both resulting from bad snaps as the Vikings (5-6) were attempting to punt.

Quarterback Brian Driskell put Atlantic Shores on the board with a 1-yard plunge, and Skipper added an 18-yard touchdown run with 5:41 left in the first for a 14-0 lead.

Jordan scored twice for the Seahawks in the second quarter on 3- and 11-yard runs. Both touchdowns were set up by the hard hitting of Matt Lucas, who sacked Broadwater quarterback Nick Howard on two consecutive drives, forcing Howard to fumble on both occasions.

Wilson scored his first touchdown with 2:08 left in the second on a 5-yard burst up the middle that gave Atlantic Shores a 35-0 lead at the half.

Jarice Mason led all rushers with 111 yards on six carries. Jordan finished with 91 yards on 16 carries.
