HARTWELL V. SCARBOROUGH JR.

Colonel Hartwell Vic Scarborough Jr., 80, retired, of the 100 block of Byrd St., died Sunday, Nov. 12, 1995, in Durham Veterans Hospital.

Colonel Scarborough was a Marine Corps aircraft ace pilot and served during World War II and the Korean War. He received numerous commendations and medals.

Survivors include a sister, Frances S. Hopkins of Roxboro; a brother, John C. Scarborough of Windsor; nieces, Betsy Pierce of Greensboro, Judy S. White of Raleigh, Jean S. Baumgardner of Briston, Tenn. and Mary Mostella of San Francisco; a nephew, David Auerswald of Los Angeles; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Windsor United Methodist Church by the Rev. Clyde Denny. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to Roanoke-Chowan Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
