Louise Pace Matthews, 93, of 1447 Clay St., died Nov. 12, 1995.
A lifelong resident of Franklin, she was the daughter of the late W.T. and Meta Parker Pace and widow of J. Fenton Matthews. Mrs. Matthews was a 1923 graduate of Randolph Macon Woman's College. She was founder of the first Girl Scout troop in Franklin in 1925. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Franklin Book Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Meta Matthews Councill and Robbie C. Councill Jr. of Franklin; a brother and his wife, Emmitte H. and Mary Lane Pace of Palm Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Louise C. and R. Nathaniel Riddick of Ahoskie, N.C., Anne C. and H. Taylor Williams IV, Robbie C. and Deborah S. Councill III, William E. and Cynthia H. Councill, all of Franklin; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth and Natalie Riddick, Meta Anne and Bert Williams, Courtney and Whitney Councill, Travis and Wade Councill; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Ed Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to High Street United Methodist Church or the Ruth Camp Campbell Memorial Library. The family will receive friends at the home of Meta M. Councill. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
