I am very concerned about the cuts that will be put in place soon that will hurt so many people. The poor, the old and the babies need Medicare and Medicaid programs.
These cutbacks to balance the budget will hurt our veterans. We need all the support we can get to keep the VA hospital in service.
When I read that the health-insurance program for old folks is in trouble, I wondered if the people who make these changes think they will get old or are they setting aside money now from these programs to have for their care?
The hospital here some years ago had wards. Six to eight people in them were poor, had no insurance and could not pay. I pray we do not have to go back to that.
Let us tell the people we send to Richmond and Washington that we do care about our old people who helped us get where we are today, about little ones who are our tomorrow and about our veterans.
Voters can send letters to Richmond and Washington, go there by the busloads, fill the halls and speak. It would be great if the churches in Hampton Roads would take busloads of their seniors. Leaders in the church could help.
I hope that our city, state and government can find another way to balance the budget without taking away or cutting back on health care.
