James M. Mears, 71, of 6839 Holy Neck Road, died Nov. 14, 1995, in Obici Hospital.
Mr. Mears was a native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and was the son of the late Henry Thomas and Macy Conner Mears. He was the widower of Frances Coggsdale Mears. Mr. Mears had retired from W.R. Bishop Hauling.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda M. Jones of Suffolk; two sons, James R. Mears of Fayetteville, N.C., and Daniel T. Mears of Suffolk; one sister, Gertrude M. Collins of Weldon, N.C.; one brother, Robert H. Mears of Courtland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and loving companion, Daisy B. Johnson of Suffolk.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin. Mr. Lloyd Rountree will officiate. The burial will be at Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home form 7 to 8 p.m. today and at other times at the home of Linda M. Jones, 321 Benton Road, Suffolk.
