Rainy weather and falling air temperatures kept angling activities to a minimum along the Dare Coast Tuesday.
A few speckled trout were landed during the day on Kitty Hawk Pier. A few puppy drum, a couple of small bluefish and one speckled trout were caught from Avalon Pier.
The best action of the day was reported from Nags Head Pier where some big speckled trout were taken. Catches included a 5-pound, 8-ounce speckled trout caught by Brad Bradley of Nags Head, and a 5-pound, 4-ounce fish caught by Stan Banks of Asheville.
The trout, landed from half to two-thirds of the way out on the pier, were taken on bucktails and soft plastic lures. Anglers also caught a few puppy drum and small bluefish.
Fishermen were scarce, so fishing was slow on Jennette's Pier and Outer Banks Pier.
On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier fishermen landed scattered puppy drum. Avon Pier and Frisco Pier both reported slow fishing because of the weather.
Surf fishing along the northern beaches was slow. A few puppy drum were taken, but trout fishing was difficult because of choppy seas.
Some puppy drum and an occasional striped bass were taken around Oregon Inlet. A few trout were taken from the south side of the inlet.
Fishing also was slow along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton, with only a few bottom fish landed Tuesday. A few puppy drum and small bluefish were beached at Cape Point.
Little action was reported in the surf from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.
No Gulf Stream trips were run Tuesday because of gale warnings and rough seas.
Good fishing should resume along the Outer Banks when winds subside following the arrival of a high pressure system.
The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 59.5 degrees Tuesday. by CNB
