CITY MANAGER CANDIDATE DROPS OUT; NOW 4 ARE LEFT

Without lifting a finger, the city has narrowed its list of city manager finalists to four.

Mayor H. Rick Gardner said one of the five candidates the City Council hoped to interview for the post had decided he didn't want the job.

The council has scheduled interviews with city manager prospects for Thursday and Tuesday. Two other dates will likely be set for the final two candidates.

City officials said state personnel laws prevent them from disclosing applicants' names.

The council reached the interview dates behind closed doors during a continuing meeting on the hiring process Monday. The goal is to hire a new manager before two council seats turn over on Dec. 4.

The city manager post opened when Ralph A. Clark announced his resignation on May 31. Victor Sharpe, the city's planning director, was named interim city manager shortly afterward and is still serving in that role. by CNB
