The Virginian-Pilot
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor a federal shutdown stopped the
scheduled arrival of the Navy's newest carrier, the John C.
Stennis, in its new home in Norfolk Tuesday. The carrier was
formally delivered by Newport News Shipbuilding to the Navy
Thursday. The 97,000-ton, 1,100-foot-long carrier and its crew of
nearly 3,000 spent Monday and Tuesday at sea for tests.
