Doughtie's Foods Inc., the Portsmouth food-products manufacturer and wholesaler, lost $122,000, or 12 cents a share, in its third quarter largely due to losses at its year-old gourmet foods unit. Doughtie's earned $157,000, or 16 cents a share, in the same period last year. The company's sales in the latest quarter totaled $21.3 million, up from $19.5 million a year earlier. If not for losses at its 70 percent-owned TWB Gourmet Foods, the company said it would have had net income equivalent to 2 cents a share in the 1995 nine-month period. Doughtie's also said in September it sold at a $96,000 net loss substantially all the assets of its Home Food Service subsidiary to a Maryland-based company controlled by Doughtie's chairman Vernon W. Mules and his wife. by CNB
