Lakeland survived a late Park View comeback for a 71-70 overtime victory in Tuesday's first round of the Group AA region tournament.
After taking a 21-4 first quarter lead, Park View broke down the Cavaliers' 1-3-1 halfcourt press with a series of fast breaks for a 19-12 run.
Park View pulled within five points when Rakieta Jones hit a jumper with four seconds to play in the third quarter.
Lakeland (15-6) opened the fourth with six quick points, but lagged in a 21-16 run as the Dragons forced four turnovers and Samirah Baskerville and Jones hit a pair of treys to make it 60-58 with 2:58 to play.
Baskerville nailed a jumper to tie it and Afryie Bray gave the Cavaliers a 62-60 lead before Melissa Spruell's buzzer-beater sent the game into overtime.
Cherri Phillips hit a 3-pointer with 1:25 to play in overtime and connected on two free throws to ice the game for Lakeland, which meets Brunswick in Thursday's 7 p.m. semifinal.
Angela Jones had 23 points for Lakeland and Bray chipped in 21.
In other first-round action, Nansemond River upended Motoaco 53-32 to advance to Thursday's 8:30 p.m. semifinal against York.
The Warriors (22-5) jumped to a 24-7 halftime lead behind Jannie Porter's 19 points and 10 rebounds. Nansemond River grabbed 43 rebounds.
Motoaca (5-11), trailing 40-19 heading into the final period, threatened a comeback as it held Nansemond River scoreless for nearly three minutes and forced five straight turnovers.
Latasha Branch led Motoaca with a game-high 23 points. Demetria Brown chipped in 10 points for Nansemond River and Monica Southall grabbed 17 rebounds. by CNB
