SCOUTING FOR EXTRA FOOD FOR THE NEEDY

IF YOU'VE FOUND a grocery bag on your front door lately, fill it up. Scouting for Food, the annual Boy and Girl Scout drive to collect food and clothing for those in need, is Saturday.

The Scouts have put grocery bags on doorsteps for the past few weeks, and beginning about 8 a.m. Saturday, they hope to find them filled up and back on the porch.

The most needed items are canned fish and meats, soups, fruit and juices, vegetables, beans, evaporated milk and infant formula. Also, peanut butter, jams, jellies, honey, cereals and pasta. Please avoid perishable foods and items in breakable containers.

Donations will be distributed by the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.

For those who haven't received a bag or who don't get a pick up, Sandler Food trucks will be at these area grocery stores from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to collect donations: The Rack & Sack stores at Tidewater Drive in Norfolk, Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth, Kempsville Road and Centerville Turnpike in Virginia Beach. Also, the Farm Fresh stores at 701 N. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake; Great Neck Road and General Booth Boulevard, both in Virginia Beach; Western Branch and Churchland boulevards in Chesapeake.
