William R. Pugh Sr.

NORFOLK - Deacon William Robinson Pugh Sr. of the 1300 block of West 27th St. died Nov. 14, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

He was retired from the Naval Air Station and Crestar Bank, Brambleton Branch, after 33 years of service. Mr. Pugh had been retired for 16 years. He was a native of Norfolk and a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk, where he was a deacon board member, past superintendant of Sunday school, and adult Sunday school teacher. Mr. Pugh was a World War II Army Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Pugh; two daughters, Shirley Pugh Butts of Norfolk, Virginia D. Pugh Whitaker of Virginia Beach; eight sons, William R. Pugh Jr., Archie R. Pugh, Edward L. Pugh, Calvin L. Pugh, Carlton E. Pugh, Marvin A. Pugh, Milton B. Pugh, all of Norfolk, and St. Elmo R. Pugh of Portsmouth; sister, Mrs. Evelyn Nichols of Norfolk; two brothers, Bishop S.E. Pugh of Portsmouth, and Archie R. Pugh of Norfolk; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends and family.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Friday by the Rev. Peter Wherry in Queen Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. The remains will be ready for viewing today at 3 p.m. The family will assemble at the residence Friday at 11 a.m. for the procession. The remains wil be taken to the church at 10 a.m Friday. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
