To get rid of long lines at city decal time, Commissioner of Revenue Sam T. Barfield is opening a temporary satellite office.
The new location will be inside the Norfolk Municipal Employees Credit Union at the Little Creek Multi-Service Center at 7665 Sewells Point Road.
Every year, a few days before the deadline for putting a new city sticker on your car - this year Feb. 15 - long lines snaking around the City Hall complex are a common sight.
Barfield hopes the second location will reduce the length of the lines.
People may buy city stickers by mail, but many people forget.
``We are pleased to offer the added convenience of a second office to customers,'' Barfield said. ``But remember, the best way to pay is through the mail. You avoid the long lines that way.''
The satellite office will open Dec. 1 and stay open through Feb. 29, 1996. The office will be open 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
To take advantage of the new location, citizens must not be delinquent in taxes or parking tickets. Any tax payments must be made to the City Treasurer's office at City Hall.
By law, vehicle owners must put a new city sticker on their vehicles by Feb. 15 or face a $50 fine. by CNB
