The Colonel William Allen Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, of Smithfield met recently at the Cedar Point Club in Suffolk.
Frank Fraudig, headmaster of Tidewater Academy, discussed how young people should be taught their duty and honor to their country, building a community of trust and love.
Several DAR members attended the District I meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Hampton in September.
In October, a group met at St. Luke's cemetery to place DAR markers on the graves of former members, Virginia Channell Mannion and Nancy Batten Wishart. Also in October, a group of DAR women attended ``Yorktown Day,'' which featured a wreath-laying ceremony for Gen. George Nelson, followed by a parade and speakers.
The chapter is sponsoring an essay contest for students in Isle of Wight County. The topic is ``American Explorers.''
