TEENAGERS DON'T get the opportunity to have their dreams come true very often. But Michelle Pavey, a sophomore at Churchland High School, recently had the chance to fulfill her dream of opening a national sporting event.
Michelle, who attends the magnet program for visual and performing arts at Churchland, sang ``The Star-Spangled Banner'' at the national U.S. Open 9-Ball pool tournament on Sept. 27 at Greenbrier Holiday Inn in Chesapeake.
Singing in front of 500 people opening night and an audience of 750 two nights later was a scary experience for Michelle, but the crowd boosted her confidence.
``Everywhere I went people would say, `That's the singer. You did a a good job,' '' Michelle said.
Soon after joining chorus in the sixth grade, Michelle decided she wanted to sing for the world as a professional, preferably opera. With Michelle's talent and aspirations, she just may one day have that chance.
