Albin R. Mailhes, 78, of Virginia Beach, died Nov. 16, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hosptial.
Mr. Mailhes was a native of New Orleans, La. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Mailhes was the executive director of the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce from 1947 to 1952, the editor-manager of the Virginia Beach Sun from 1952 to 1965, and was the executive vice-president of the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce from 1965 to 1979 when he retired.
Mr. Mailhes professional and civic activities include, president of the Virginia Beach Chamber of Commerce from 1961 to 1963, past president of the Virginia Beach Rotary Club, the Virginia Beach-Princess Anne Community Fund, past director of the Virginia Travel Council, the Ocean Highway Association, member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, the Virginia Beach Beautification Commission, a past board member of the Neptune Festival, the secretary-treasurer of the Virginia Beach-Lynnhaven Mosquito Control Commission, and in 1975 was the recipient of the Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He was also a former member of the United Communities Fund Board of Directors, the American Cancer Society, and the Virginia Beach Vocational Technical School. Mr. Mailhes was a former member and five-time Golf Club Champion of the Princess Anne Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria T. Mailhes; two sons, Albin Roland Mailhes Jr. and his wife Rose, Frederick Lawrence Mailhes and his wife Dionne; two daughters, Rosemary DeLacey and her husband, Richard, Lucille Parker and her husband, James; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at noon Monday at Star of the Sea Catholic Church by the Rev. William V. Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Albin R. Mailhes Memorial Scholarship Fund of the University of Notre Dame, 726 Greensboro Ave., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel are handling arrangements.
