Melvin A. Mason, 55, of 26270 Ridley Road, died Nov. 15, 1995, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, after a short illness.
Mr. Mason, the widower of Bessie M. Mason, was a native of Southampton County. He was a contractor for the Southampton County School Board for eight years. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and the Masons Lodge of Newsoms.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Corbin; two sons, Seaman Apprentice Melvin L. Mason, USS John C. Stennis, Norfolk, and Capt. Gregory A. Mason, 41st Ordinance Company, Kaiserslautern, Germany; one daughter, Melinda A. Mason of Newsoms; five brothers, Charlie Williams of Newsoms, David, Jimmy, Ronnie Corbin of Baltimore, Md., Arthur Corbin of Franklin; two sisters, Louvnia Wicker and Lois Anderson; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Justina Mason. He was predeceased by his father, Will Mayfield.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church by the Rev. Roger Steele. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Como, N.C. Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home in charge.
