SPECKLED TROUT WERE THE DARE COAST'S STAR FISH OF THE SEA

Calm seas and clear water produced good speckled trout fishing along the Dare Coast Thursday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported plenty of speckled trout and some tailor blues landed throughout the morning. Additionally some stripers were taken before sunrise.

On Avalon Pier a few trout were landed sporadically during the day.

Speckle trout weighing up to 4 1/2 pounds, a few puppy drum, bluefish and some sea mullet were caught off and on from Nags Head Pier.

On Jennette's Pier lots of speckled trout and a few nice puppy drum were landed.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught speckled trout at a steady rate from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Some puppy drum, bluefish and a few flounder were also taken.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported some puppy drum landed during the morning and a good run of speckle trout late in the day.

Sea mullet, small black drum, small croakers and plenty of skates were taken from Avon Pier. Anglers on Frisco Pier landed lots of small puppy drum, small black drum, a few flounder and some toadfish.

Speckled trout fishing was good north of Oregon Inlet Thursday morning. Scatterd trout were also reported taken from deeper sloughs along the beach from Kitty Hawk to Oregon Inlet. Around the Inlet a few trout, some nice sea mullet and several keeper puppy drum were beached.

Small trout, puppy drum and bluefish were landed by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton. Some striped bass were reported from the Avon area.

Good speckled trout fishing was reported in the surf north of Cape Point near the lighthouse. Small bluefish and some puppy drum were landed at the point.

Nice puppy drum, sea mullet and speckled trout were taken along the beach from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Charters out of Oregon Inlet caught plenty of yellowfin tuna. Most of the fish were small. A few Big Eyes were also taken.

King mackerel catches were good off Hatteras with commercial boats landing up to 25 boxes.

Speckled trout fishing should be excellent this weekend provided winds and seas remain moderate.

Water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 55 degrees Thursday. by CNB
