SILVER TEA TO BENEFIT CHESAPEAKE CIVIC CHORUS

This Sunday it will be time to sip tea, enjoy some of Chesapeake's finest young artistic talent and help the Chesapeake Civic Chorus stage its 1996 annual spring concert.

The chorus, a group of citizen-singers under the direction of Geraldine T. Boone, exists on funds awarded to them by the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission and state and federal grants.

``The money we will realize from this Sunday's tea will help us finance the chorus' annual spring concert, which is always the biggest concert of our season,'' said Margaret Cross, administrative assistant for the chorus.

One of the perfect teens, pianist Andrew Wong, won't be at this Sunday's tea because he's attending his first semester at Duke University.

Here's a look at the Chesapeake teens who will be performing at this Sunday's Civic Chorus event:

Christie L. Beck is the 15-year-old daughter of Cheryl and Robert Beck and a sophomore at Great Bridge High School. Beck, a classical ballet dancer, used her Fine Arts grant money to attend the Virginia School of Arts in Lynchburg during the summer.

William L. Belongia is the 17-year-old son of Susan and Gordon Belongia and a senior at Deep Creek High. Belongia won his grant money from the Fine Arts Commission for his work in musical composition. In addition, he is adept at playing the mandolin, saxophone, guitar, bass and piano.

Thomanita L. Booth is the 17-year-old daughter of Elaine McDaniel and is a senior at Indian River High. Although not a recent Fine Arts Scholarship grant winner, this current Miss Indian River High has been seen nationally on the Disney cable channel as a member of the new Mickey Mouse Club.

Zachary E. Casebolt is the 14-year-old son of Sally Casebolt and is a freshman at Indian River High. Zachary won his grant money because of his skill with the violin. He is currently first chair in the Senior Regional Orchestra, first chair in the Governor's Magnet School orchestra and third chair at Interlocken music camp. He is a member of the Bay Youth Orchestra.

Chris Conley is the 14-year-old son of Olivia and Robert Conley and a freshman at Great Bridge High. Although Chris will not physically be at this Sunday's tea, his talent will. A lauded young watercolorist, Chris will have a couple of his works on display.

Nakeya K. Hudson is the 12-year-old daughter of Helen and Kevin Hudson and an eighth grade student at Indian River Middle School. A modern dancer, Nakeya is a member of the Hurrah Players, is the 1995 Miss Preteen Hampton Roads and a student at the Gail Harts Dance Co.

Andrew M. Sobel is the 17-year-old son of Elizabeth Sobel and is a junior at Western Branch High. A pianist, Andrew recently won a state first place performing award and second place composition award in the recent Donald L. Bolger High School Piano competitions sponsored by the Virginia Music Teachers Association. He attended the Governor's School summer program, is a pianist with the Chesapeake Jazz Band and is a violinist in the Senior Regional Orchestra competitions.

Besides performances from the Civic Chorus and the above youngsters, the event will also include finger foods and refreshments. by CNB
