Last week's Thursday games caught me off guard when it came time to do the picks.
When I sat down to figure things out, it dawned on me that my picks needed to be in Wednesday's Beacon because the games were being played a day earlier than usual. To get them in that issue, I would have needed to do them by noon Monday - the deadline for Wednesday's Beacon.
Well. . . .I goofed.
It would now be easy to say I picked every game correctly, but that isn't so. I'd have nothing to gain by that because even if I lost all five games, I'd still be ahead of the guests.
The title is mine for the second straight season.
Honestly looking back on which games I would have chosen, I would have gone 4-1 last week - my loss coming in the Salem-Cox game. Salem had a chance to make it to the playoffs and had been playing awfully darned well.
So, all that mess aside, let's take a stab at tonight's Eastern Region Division 6 semifinals:
Green Run 35, Kempsville 17: The Chiefs played outstanding football against Green Run last week, but I don't believe the Stallions are going to let that happen this time around. This is supposed to be Green Run's season because of all the talent and this is when the talent should really shine.
Tallwood 24, Indian River 19: This one should be a war of sorts, but I think the Lions will have what it takes to edge the Braves and get themselves another shot at Green Run in the region championship.
Two weeks ago: 4-1.
Best pick: Green Run 28, Tallwood 14. Green Run won, 18-7.
Worst pick: Ocean Lakes 21, Salem 20. Salem won, 16-0.
Overall: 40-10.
The guest (Chris Reckling): 3-2.
Best pick: Kempsville 35, Bayside 12. Kempsville won, 34-21.
Worst pick: Kellam 17, First Colonial 10. First Colonial won, 28-0.
Guests overall: 31-19. by CNB
