Joan Loney, 58, of the 400 block of Duck Hunter Court, died Nov. 17, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
She was a seventh grade English teacher at Lynnhaven Middle School and a native of North Platte, Neb. Mrs. Loney was the widow of Edward H. Loney and a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Old Dominion University where she received her bachelors degree. She also received her masters degree in English literature. She taught in the Virginia Beach City Public School System for 16 years. She was a member of the VATE, VBATE, and the Virginia Association of Middle Schools. She worked on various committees including the Cultural Arts Committees and the English Curriculum Committee.
She is survived by two sons, Matthew W. Loney and Christopher W. Loney, both of Virginia Beach; parents, Annette Fitts of Chesapeake and Melvin D. Peters of Nebraska; and one brother, Douglas M. Peters of Sonoca, Calif.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Clark Mandigo and Paul Bailey in Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. A scholarship fund has been established and donations may be sent to the G. Joan Loney Scholarship Fund at Lynnhaven Middle School, 1250 Bayne Drive, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
